l like to think of this as a non-traditional diptych, a piece consisting of two panels, that continue the artwork outside the boundaries of one panel. The flying swallow was crucial to the flow of the painting but it would have been less interesting using a single panel, creating too large a negative space in the lighter colors. This layout creates a triangle that leads your eye and has more design strength. "Renewal" is about new beginnings, a renewal of pair bonds, rebuilding of nests and community and the promise of a new generation.
