This Steller Sea Lion was photographed on a trip to Alaska and was visiting the harbor at Seward. We had returned from fishing and he eagerly awaited the discarded fish! Steller sea lions are protected under both the Endangered Species Act and the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Due to concern over the dramatic decline of Steller sea lions in Alaska, in 1990, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) took emergency actions to list the species as threatened under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
