We live on a small hobby farm and this horse came to us as a rescue horse. His owners had all but starved him to death. He was quite ill and it has taken many months of slow recovery. He was once a brilliant ribbon-winning eventer and race-horse barrier trail winner. He stands over 17 hands high and one would expect him to be a big, cranky boy having survived the cruelest of treatments. But instead, he is a big, kind, gentle soul. This was the inspiration for my painting - to capture that calmness in his eye.
