There is an abundance of sculptures of bears, so I thought I didn't need to create another. I was wrong, I love polar bears, and I hate what is happening to them, and to their Arctic habitat. There are lots of fun facts about polar bears. For example: polar bears slither across thin ice on their tummies, spreading out their weight to avoid breaking through the ice. Here is an un-fun fact: Polar bears are burning more energy to find less food - starving. Today there are 770,000 square miles less sea ice than the average ice coverage from 1981 to 2010. Polar bears must walk or swim great distances to find sea ice, seal breathing holes in the ice, and ultimately the seals, their main food. They must burn many more calories now in the effort to eat. Go green. Stop burning fossil fuels. Save our beloved polar bears, and ourselves.
