Living in the remote forests of the Congo, Bonobos are not only the closest genetically to humans, but also the rarest and most threatened of the great ape family. Relatively gentle creatures, they live in matriarchal groups, offering some provocative thoughts to gender roles amongst all animals. Sadly the destruction of forests , increasing human activities and the penchant for bush meat is threatening their very existence. Endangered on IUCN red list.
