These snakes are found in North Eastern Queensland in a variety of habitats from rainforest to savannah woodland and even out on coral cays. Their muscular bodies make them very adept at climbing trees so roosting birds can be on the menu. They can grow to as much as 8 metres but this specimen was an estimated 3 - 4 metres. Curled up in the fork of a coastal paperbark tree with the sunlight glancing through the rough and curling bark patterns, it was obviously a peaceful place for a siesta. The lights and patterns in the paperbark also made a fascinating environment for painting when I spotted him high up in his hideaway.
