While working with the San Antonio Zoo on a piece for their live auction, I was able to get lots of reference photos of all their animals. I was captivated by the color and strong gaze of the Double-wattled Cassowary they had. The brilliant turquoise, purples and reds in his head made me think of our own wild turkey toms. Often, it's the color that attracts and inspires me to do a piece, and that was true with the Cassowary, but it was also the fierce eye that pulled me in.
