Owls are one of my favorite birds. I am captivated by their soft yet strong disposition. Most of us see owls as mystical creatures perhaps because it is on such rare occasions that we are blessed with seeing one due to their solitary and nocturnal behavior. Just hearing one off in the distance stirs excitement followed with anticipation that we might catch a glimpse. The quiet and mystical is what I tried to capture in this painting. I chose the colors and soft lighting in this painting not just to give a sense of time, but to set the mood and present the quiet and peacefulness that I feel when I am in the forest, much like I would imagine when an owl sits, quietly waiting, keeping watch. The forest has always been a place of fascination to me where I feel compelled to discover every corner; and then as an artist, in a sense, my work preserves my experiences.
