Green-tailed Towhees are most often found scratching through leaf litter under dense cover. They tend to live in and around low shrubs, on low branches and on the ground. Currently, Green-tailed Towhee numbers are good, but because they live close to the ground, they are sensitive to agricultural changes, extreme grazing, and wildfires. Green-tailed Towhees are especially vulnerable to domestic cat attacks. According to the American Bird Conservancy, it is estimated the world loses over a billion birds each year to house cats. Until there is a way to eliminate attacks by cats, the numbers of small birds lost to cats will continue.
