I find one of Africa’s most distinctive animals to be the zebra. Their pelts are bold black and white stripes and are as unique as a human fingerprint. Some zebra stripes have a faint grey color or may be a brown ‘shadow’ stripe in the white region. In this painting called “ Lean on Me” I wanted to recreate how zebras connected with one another in a peaceful yet brotherly way. They do this by resting their head on the back of another zebra. I observed this behavior many times on my extended stays in the South African bush.
