I have been fortunate to spend time each winter on Florida's gulf coast on Gasparilla Island. The storms that come across the gulf are beautiful and inspiring to paint, but also a reminder of how fragile these barrier islands are. I wanted to show the power of the storm as it was passing with the ibis flocking away from its path to safety. As I was working on this painting , three major hurricanes were wreaking havoc on Puerto Rico, much of the Caribbean, the Bahamas and Florida as well. Although this little island was spared this time, the ultimate power of nature cannot be underestimated.
