I have painted many osprey in and around their nests. I am often drawn to nests on platforms or other man-made objects. The rebound in the osprey populations is a testament to the working symbiosis of man and nature. On the other hand, the majesty of this nest atop an old Maine pine is irresistible. These sea hawks are truly kings of the sky and sea alike and this is prime real estate, a natural vantage point and perfect place to build a "castle". I chose to paint the tree and nest in a regal silhouette against the golden morning sky.
