Shoebills, besides being unique looking, are amazingly deadly hunters. At an impressive height of 5' tall and a wing span of 7' they are endangered and a native of east Africa. The are called the "Murder Bird" for the masterful way they kill their prey. Masters of patience, they will stand motionless for hours waiting for their prey. They are a solitary bird, so masterful in the hunt, that they don't need a pack. They are declining because their swamp habitats are being converted to farmlands and other fish that eat what they eat are being introduced into their habitat.
