At Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana, I spent time photographing wildlife from an underground hide overlooking a busy waterhole. Although kudu, impala, baboons, and many other animals visited throughout the day, elephants were the undeniable highlight. Returning to the hide on three separate occasions allowed me to observe the remarkable dynamics within their family groups. I was especially captivated by the playful behaviour of the calves and the extraordinary care and protection shown by the adults. Inspired by one of the photographs I captured there, this drawing celebrates both the strength and tenderness of elephant families. It is one of seven works in my Save Them series, created to encourage appreciation and conservation of these magnificent animals.
