This Horned Puffin pair have arrived at their breeding grounds along the coasts of Alaska and British Columbia, where they nest among rocky crevices adorned with vibrant maritime sunburst lichens. The brilliant orange lichens echo the colours of the puffins’ feet and bills, creating a visual harmony that first inspired this painting. Through this connection, I sought to celebrate both the birds and the remarkable coastal habitat on which they depend.
