I started my scratchboard journey in 2025. This lion portrait is one of my first scratchboard artworks. His majestic look caught me immediately. It reminded me of my favourite animation movie The Lion King. I saw it multiple times in movie theatre when I was a little girl. I think that's why big cats are my favourite animals.
I worked on it mostly with tattoo needles. It's a small artwork, but it took me 17 hours to finish it. I loved every minute of it. Male lions are always a challenge for me to scratch because of their main and their short fur.
Lions are classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Their numbers are declining because of human-lion conflict, illegal trade and habitat loss.
