There’s something about the mountain lion that feels both powerful and deeply elusive. It’s an animal you rarely see, but you know it’s there—moving quietly, completely at home in its surroundings. Creating this piece, I focused on the stillness and intensity in its expression. There’s a calm confidence in the way it holds itself, but also an underlying tension—a reminder of just how capable it is. Working in layered paper allowed me to build that feeling slowly, adding depth and shadow with each cut. It mirrors the landscapes they move through and the way they blend so seamlessly into them.
Mountain lions live closer to us than we often realize, yet they remain misunderstood and under pressure as their habitats shrink. For me, this piece is about that coexistence—respecting their space, recognizing their presence, and understanding that sharing the landscape comes with responsibility.
