I have always been drawn to animals that seem almost otherworldly, and lemurs possess a quiet, haunting presence unlike any other. Their expressive eyes convey both curiosity and vulnerability, inviting us to pause and truly see them. Layered paper was the perfect medium for this work, with each carefully cut layer reflecting the delicate complexity of the ecosystems on which lemurs depend. Found only in Madagascar, lemurs are among the world’s most unique and threatened mammals. While creating this piece, I was struck by the possibility that such extraordinary animals could disappear within our lifetime. This work celebrates their beauty while reminding us of our shared responsibility to value and protect the irreplaceable wildlife of our planet.
