This painting shares the spotlight between a meadowlark and a bison. A brilliant flash of yellow emerges from the dust kicked up by a bull during the autumn rut. Soon the meadowlarks will migrate south, while the bison will remain to endure the harsh prairie winter. Once abundant across North America’s grasslands, both species have experienced significant declines. My hope is that these enduring prairie icons will continue to recover and once again thrive across the landscapes they have long defined!
