Wall color:
As we sat in the jeep, in the silence of the bush, out of nowhere, a sudden crashing, thundering and parting of the thicket by the side of our vehicle, gave way to a huge bull elephant, his tusks inches from our faces .. we sat rigid, shocked and pinned to the backs of our seats. I remember holding my breath and my heart thumping out of my chest, while his giant head swayed, ears flapped, and his thundering trumpet blasted into our ears.
Then as he slightly stepped back, moving thick bush like it wasn't even there, the driver started the engine and we pulled away. Looking back as we drove off, I vividly remember him following us at pace, bellowing his disdain and kicking up golden clouds of dust that framed his immense and impressive silhouette.
That moment was raw, untamed and indelible and this piece is not just another scene, but a visceral memory of an intense wild moment and the awe that it stirred within me.
In drawing this I am holding onto a fragment of the African wilderness and it is a reminder of its energy, beauty, and unpredictability.
