Often called the “ghost of the forest,” the okapi is one of the world’s most elusive and endangered mammals. Found only in the tropical rainforests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the species faces growing threats from deforestation, illegal mining, and habitat loss. With an estimated wild population of only about 10,000 individuals, protecting both the Okapi and its remaining forest habitat is essential to ensuring its survival. This portrait celebrates one of Africa’s most remarkable and rarely seen animals.
