Found along lakes, rivers, and shorelines, Belted kingfishers are not currently endangered, but their populations have steadily declined since the 1970s. Habitat loss, shoreline development, water pollution, contaminants, and increasing human activity all contribute to their decline. This painting was created using a combination of reference images generously provided by Brent Cooke.
