Things are not always as they seem. The vulnerability of the Asian Rhino calf is made all the more poignant because of his impenetrable looking skin, a rough looking suit of armor. Yet the rhino’s skin is sensitive and susceptible to sunburn and insect bites. This is why they like to roll in mud or dust, to create a protective barrier. The butterflies would be felt by one so tender and soft, their lightness contrasted with the weight of the baby. Although delicate, butterflies are powerful fliers, some migrating for hundreds of miles.
Rhinos are tough looking as adults, with a big horn for protection, but they are no match for humans with their weapons and chainsaws.
