The Philippine or Palawan Pangolin is listed as "Critically Endangered" because of heavy hunting pressure, like most of the eight existing Pangolin species in Africa and Asia. It is mainly adapted to a diet of termites and ants. This is the cause that the Pangolins are difficult to keep in Zoos. Unlike other Pangolin species with dark colours the scales of the Palawan Pangolin can show shades of orange-yellow, very attractive for an artist. The tail is strong and aids in climbing trees.
