I am fortunate to regularly observe American oystercatchers feeding along Connecticut’s shoreline. Active, vocal, and full of personality, they often forage in pairs. This particular pair became familiar companions as they searched among the rocks for shellfish, noisily disputing ownership of the best clam. Their lively behaviour and obvious partnership made them a pleasure to watch and an equally rewarding subject to paint.
