The Screech Owl in this painting is from our neighborhood. When it showed up no-one really noticed until it took up residence in a dead tree that was scheduled to be taken down. It became clear that the bird had established a nest. Through postings on social media forum for the community, many spoke up and cited a state law prohibiting the tree from being cut down. The outcome was a single outlet and a following of faithful fans. As for the tree, it still stands and is now home to: Black-Bellied Whistling ducks, a pair of Starlings, and Red-bellied woodpeckers.
