This was created shortly after my visit to Siem Pang Wildlife Sanctuary in Cambodia, where three critically endangered vulture species: the Slender-billed, White-rumped, and Red-headed vultures are protected through a conservation program led by Rising Phoenix headed by Jonathan C. Eames. Observing this from a hide is a unique experience: sometimes they feed, but often they simply perch silently on nearby branches, as if waiting for something else. A buffalo carcass is offered to support the vultures once a week but may just be an excuse for the younger vultures to gather and show off among their peers. A lively scene unfolds as mynas, turtle doves, bee-eaters, and starlings all drop in. It feels like a social event.
