I came across this trio of Mountain goats a couple of years ago in Jasper Park. The lighting was fantastic and I loved how they stood up on the ridge, their white coats set apart from the dark foliage behind them. They overlooked the rest of the herd which were visiting some mineral licks on the cliff below.
A subalpine to alpine species, the mountain goat is found in areas of the Rockies in western North America. They are extraordinary climbers who can be seen on sheer rock faces and near vertical cliffs and only venture down into lower elevations during seasonal food shortages or for mineral licks, which are natural concentrations of salts and minerals in the soil, which are crucial for their health, especially after a long winter.
