This mandala painting highlights twenty-one native species found within intertidal habitats of the Lower Mainland, British Columbia, and is part of a larger ecosystem research project. A mandala is a symbol of wholeness, characterized by concentric layers of shapes and images. They are tools to focus attention and inspire contemplation. The goal of this painting is to highlight the beauty and interconnectedness of our local foreshore inhabitants, while bringing attention to vulnerable and critically endangered species, including the Sunflower sea star and Olympia oyster.
