Every spring in my home state of New Hampshire, snapping turtles emerge from the water to dig a nest and lay their eggs. In the fall, in the nests that managed to avoid predators, turtles begin to hatch. This painting depicts the moment when the baby turtles begin to emerge from the nest. This is also an illustration for the book, ‘The True and Lucky Life of a Turtle.’
