My pastel painting “Into the Mist” captures a solitary koala emerging from a soft, dreamlike haze drawn from my own personal experience and reference while in Australia. With delicate strokes of pastel and a muted palette it evokes both the beauty and vulnerability of this iconic creature. The mist symbolizes the uncertainty facing Koalas as they struggle against impacts of bushfires, habitat destruction and food scarcity. By portraying the koala in such a frail state this is a poignant call to action. We need to recognize their endangered status and take meaningful steps to protect and preserve them.
