The Northern Hawk Owl is an elusive bird that inhabits mixed forests of coniferous and deciduous trees. The owl’s conservation status remains largely unknown, even to this day. In “Northern Hawk Owl in Aspen Stand”, I painted a solitary northern hawk-owl that is perched comfortably in an aspen tree. Curved branches near the owl follow the contour of the bird’s head and body. The aspen stand and the owl are cloaked in heavy morning mist. The northern hawk-owl remains shrouded in mystery.
