I wanted to push my boundaries when I chose to paint this. I wanted to paint water that was both reflective and transparent so you could see the stones and fish underneath. The reflection on the water surface fading into the transparent area, the colour difference when the stones are wet or dry, the shine on the stones and on the meniscus of the water against the stones were all fun challenges. I really wanted to paint a lot of detail in this painting. There are a couple of trout fry, a dragonfly, a couple of birds flying and a Hellgrammite!
