On a late afternoon hike in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, near my home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, I came upon this tranquil scene. The mountains had received much needed new snow. The golden orange light cast by the setting sun on the trees, the blue shadows on the fresh snow, and the small creek created a beautiful scene and an enchanting moment of solitude and peace. I painted this in my studio from a photo and from my memories of the beautiful light.
