It was quiet as I sat in the hide hoping and waiting for a glimpse into the nocturnal life of amazing animals on a private reserve in South Africa. This special reserve is a conglomeration of properties with a dedicated conservation team in charge of protection and management of the land and animals. As I waited, out of nowhere without a sound, stepped this magnificent young elephant. This youngster explored the small flood lit area and played a bit, splashing the water at a small water hole. I was struck by pure beauty and peace. This quiet moment filled me with hope for the future of elephants. Hope had emerged from the darkness.
