In the early days of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, there weren’t many places that took in injured or orphaned animals for care and rehabilitation. So, many Museum staff simply adopted the animals themselves. Franny, the orphan badger cub, was one such example – named after the badger in a children’s book series by Russell and Lillian Hoban. She was so young when received that her eyes were still closed and so small she had to be fed baby formula from a doll’s bottle. She was much-loved and ended up leading a long life.
