Mountain goats are not in the same genus as goats. They are in the bovidae family, along with antelopes, gazelles, and cattle. Mountain goats live in alpine and subalpine environments. The high elevation above the tree line protects mountain goats from predators in summer. They migrate to lower elevations in the winter. Their lifespan is 9 to 12 years, and their age can be calculated by counting the rings on their horns. ‘Selah’ means: to pause and to reflect, a fitting title as it seemed to look back and pause or reflect. The textures and colours in his winter coat, and the rocks, intrigued me to paint it.
