l've often heard the term 'genetic memory' used to describe human moments of sudden, special abilities, reaction to danger or having knowledge in an area unstudied. Could animals also carry this in their DNA? Does this handsome zoo Cheetah have ancestral memory of seeing and smelling the elephants and giraffes or stalking a flock of Quelea and a Thompson's Gazelle. Does he dream of the shimmer of an African sunset and the tribal colors of the natives he shared this land with? These were my thoughts as l put together the idea for this painting, including designing my own Kente fabric to bring it all together.
