With their slow-flapping wings, great hornbills are poetry in motion, streaming one after the other, through the canopy of trees in Northeast India. The pair forming, with unison calls and selection of a nesting site in emergent branches in tall trees, is a sight to behold. I tried to capture the vastness of the forest through the empty spaces. The color of the withering and newly growing leaves provides a balancing element. Sadly, the great hornbill is a vulnerable species due to habitat loss and hunting for its casque.
