'Dignity' is a mixed media painting dedicated to "Sudan" the last male Northern White Rhino who has since passed. Raising awareness of the ancient beauty and grace of these magnificent creatures through art was a long-time goal for me, having been being fascinated with the species since childhood. I painted this Rhino with emotional sadness reflecting on his past and the vulnerability of his species. The exaggerated colors represent the bright future, hope, and strength of the species. Colored pencil is diluted with Gamsol and the pigment is spread with a brush creating a fluid painting appearance on 140 lb. Arches hot press watercolor paper.
