I photographed this Leafy seadragon at the aquarium in Singapore and fell in love with his vibrant colors and wonderful leafy appendages. With his long tubular snout and leaf like appendages, it has perfect camouflage as it sways in the ocean currents among seaweed, sucking up fish larvae, plankton, small crustaceans and mysid shrimp. One of three species of seadragon it is found only in Australian waters. Although listed as "Least Concern" on the IUCN Red List, scientists are concerned for their populations due to the decline of kelp forests and sea grass habitats. Leafy seadragons are also a casualty of the fishing industry as "by-catch". It’s unknown how long they live.
