The Mountain Pygmy Possum is listed as critically endangered with only an approximate of 2000 individuals left. Their decline is attributed to ski resort development and the destruction of habitat, as well as climate change causing a change in their most important food source: the Bogong moth. These little tea-cup sized marsupials live in the high alpine boulder fields in only three remaining locations in the Kosciuszko National Park. Nocturnal and shy, rarely seen, largely unknown by the public, yet their loss will have a huge impact for such a small life.
