My interest in pattern and design actually evolved before I began to consistently paint true form realism, and the composition and texture of my representational paintings was always influenced and informed by this previous experience. About 7 years ago I began to pair my animal subjects with organic abstract patterns, and although I found it an unexpected challenge, I was excited by the spontaneity of it. I felt like I had found a visual language that best describes the energy, or ‘fizz’ in the air when I encounter my subjects.
