Native to Vancouver Island, BC, many Black-tailed Deer live in our urban areas that have close access to wild, natural habitat parks. These parks merge and join together weaving green space through the subdivisions which provide shelter to the deer and various other species of animals and birds. The Black-tailed Deer are the only deer species found on Vancouver Island. Beautiful to watch, they browse and forage methodically, following ancient trails through the neighbourhoods. I have often seen a mother and her fawns sleeping in my garden; even on the front porch! One morning, as I opened the door, I saw these two fawns enjoying a hearty breakfast in my garden.
