From January to April, you will find humpback whales breeding and calving in the warm tropical waters of Hawaii. Most frolic off the coast of Maui. A common site is to find bottlenose dolphins interacting with humpback whales. This painting depicts one of those interactions. The third whale in the painting is referred to as the escort.
