The Swallow-tailed Kite is a long-distance migrating raptor. They are graceful in flight and highly maneuverable when swooping to catch insects in flight. I have seen one pluck a Lizard from a treetop and eat it in flight. This bird was observed in the Everglades National Park in early spring. They are true snowbirds coming to Florida to nest and leaving for South America in the fall. Swallow-tailed kites are one of my favorite birds.
