This Red Fox observed on the Arowhon Road in Algonquin Park proved to be a very cooperative subject. Although I didn't expect it to stay once, I got out of the car, but to my surprise it not only stayed, but ventured out onto the road. I took a few photographs, thinking I'd better take advantage of the situation before it headed back into the bush. It soon became apparent that I could do some sketching from life, and one of the positions I recorded in my sketchbook was this pause in the process of the Fox scratching himself. The painted pose is very close to my rough sketch, and I was able to fill in little details here and there from photographs that were not nearly as true to the position, but useful, nonetheless.
