The Bald Eagle is the national bird of the United States of America and appears on its seal, logos and coinage. It is considered an icon of power, freedom and beauty and is a sacred bird in some North American cultures. To make the composition interesting I supplemented the partial lighting on distant trees and mist coming up from the water body. The dried tree perch is detailed to balance the plain background. The magpies in the painting add value as they feed on the carrion of the prey that the Bald Eagle hunts.
