My inspiration for this piece was the reefs I grew up diving on, in the Florida Keys, with the incredible stands and fields of staghorn and elkhorn corals. The dazzling array of colorful species, many shy and well hidden, would peek from their coral refuge as you floated past. The outdoors has always been my place of joy and I decided to create this unique piece using naturally shed and legally sourced feathers. I painted this image directly on the feathers. A close examination will show you the 18 small and beautiful creatures hidden in the Queen's Crown of coral.
