In the past, I saw the signs and cabled off areas on California Beaches, to protect nesting sites, but never saw the actual bird, until I went to the Salinas River Wildlife Refuge with Point Blue biologist, Kriss Neuman. Be aware of the ‘above high tide markers’ during nesting season, as the eggs are even harder to see. Snowy plovers are smaller than a Robin and so well camouflaged that when they are still, they disappear. This female is sitting on her nest, and truthfully, I had to add a lot of flotsam and jetsam to make the print work, as there was a lot less debris around her nest.
